A framed advertising print for Price’s Gold Medal Palmitine Candles. The central lithographic illustration features a bluebird perched on a flowering branch next to a blue crescent moon. The interior of the moon contains a moonlit seascape with a three-masted sailing vessel, the sails printed with ‘PRICE’S PATENT CANDLE COMPY LIMD’ and the hull marked ‘BELMONT’. The image is set within a pale blue decorative border featuring star and floral motifs. The main text reads ‘PRICE’S GOLD MEDAL PALMITINE CANDLES’. The lower margin is printed with ‘PRICE’S PATENT CANDLE COMPANY LIMITED LONDON & LIVERPOOL’. The showcard is housed in a dark wood frame featuring a carved egg-and-dart inner moulding and a wide bevelled gilt inner slip. The reverse is sealed with brown paper and fitted with three brass-toned metal hanging brackets.
19 1/4 inches wide by 25 1/2 inches high.

Condition report:

The paper ground exhibits age-related toning and foxing throughout. There is a prominent vertical staining line running down the centre of the image (photo 2). A small area of surface loss is visible in the blue sea area beneath the ship (photo 2). The frame shows minor scuffs and surface wear consistent with age, with some small losses to the gilding on the inner slip (photo 5). The reverse paper backing shows old tape marks and minor tears (photo 6).
