A Whitbread and Co. Ltd advertising showcard presented on a cream ground. The composition features three illustrated bottles for London Stout, India Pale Ale, and Extra Stout, each displaying detailed labels and foil caps printed with ‘WHITBREAD’. The company’s hind’s head crest logo on a heraldic torse is positioned to the right of the lower text. The typography is rendered in red serif lettering with black drop shadows, reading ‘WHITBREAD’S’, ‘LARGE BOTTLES’, ‘BOTTLED BEERS’, and ‘NATURALLY MATURED’. The piece is housed in a dark-stained wooden frame with a gilded inner slip and glass front. The reverse bears a handwritten notation of ’18 x 12′.
Measurements: 14.5 inches by 20.5 inches overall; internal sight size 12 inches by 18 inches.


Condition report:

The showcard exhibits prominent foxing and water staining across the cream background, most notably surrounding the central and right bottles and the lower margin (photos 1, 2, and 3). There is visible fading to the printed colours. The wooden frame shows various scuffs and nicks, including a chip to the timber at the bottom right corner (photo 4). The reverse shows adhesive tape repairs and general wear to the card backing (photo 6).
