Lithographed tinplate canister of waisted multi-faceted rectangular form. The exterior features a mustard-yellow ground with Art Nouveau floral and foliate scrollwork in olive green, brown and cream. The domed hinged lid is fitted with a brass knob finial. Four side panels contain lithographed vignettes depicting traditional Japanese scenes. Readable captions at the base of the panels include ‘Resting Kago (travelling chair)’, ‘Singer playing’ and ‘Goddess Temp. Kioto’. The caption to the rear panel is worn and illegible. No maker’s marks or printer’s marks are visible to the exterior or interior.
