A rectangular enamel advertising sign for Hawkins & Son Ltd, City and County Billposters of Exeter. The sign features a yellow ground with black lettering and an oval central graphic. The main text reads CITY AND COUNTY / HAWKINS & SON LTD / BILLPOSTERS, with the word EXETER appearing in each of the four corners. A maker’s mark is printed along the lower edge border, reading PATENT ENAMEL CO LTD B’HAM. The reverse of the sign is unfinished sheet metal with significant surface oxidation.

Condition report:

The sign displays significant wear consistent with long-term outdoor exposure. There is substantial enamel loss and heavy corrosion along all four edges and corners, most notably to the bottom left corner where the initial E of EXETER is lost to rust (photo 2). The main field exhibits multiple impact chips with associated rust bleeding, surface scratching, and localized crazing to the glaze (photos 3 and 5). The reverse face shows widespread heavy surface rust and pitting across the entire surface (photo 8).
