A cobalt blue ground enamel advertising sign featuring a central yellow and red graphic of an Eagle brand matchbox. The matchbox is depicted at an angle and includes the text EAGLE in a red banner, BRITISH MADE SAFETY MATCHES, and BRYANT & MAY LTD in a black cartouche. Bold yellow block lettering at the top reads ENGLISH MATCHES FOR ENGLISH HOMES. A white circular price roundel to the left contains a large red 2D with the text PER DOZ BOXES. The lower section includes the wording MADE IN BRYANT & MAY’S MODEL FACTORIES IN ENGLAND in yellow sans-serif type. The manufacturer is identified on the box and at the base as Bryant & May Ltd.

Condition report:

The sign is in salvaged condition with significant enamel loss and corrosion throughout. There is heavy metal loss and jagged rusting along the entire bottom edge (photo 11) and deep corrosion to all corners. The central field displays numerous impact chips and scratches, exposing the dark oxidized metal beneath the enamel (photo 2). The reverse side is heavily and uniformly rusted (photo 11). Colours remain vibrant where the enamel surface is intact.
