Lot 475: Carburine Motor Spirit Two-Gallon Petrol Can

A two-gallon rectangular sheet steel petrol can featuring centrally embossed serif block lettering to the main panels reading CARBURINE MOTOR SPIRIT. The top surface is embossed under the handle GLICO PETROLEUM and opposite with PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE. A manufacturer’s mark for John Feaver Ltd is impressed near the cap reading FEAVER 1927 LONDON, alongside a 3/- original retail price mark. The can is fitted with a central strap handle and retains its original brass screw-top cap, which is embossed with CARBURINE around the perimeter. The entire body, handle, and cap neck are finished in a uniform light grey overpaint.
Condition report:
The can has been overpainted in a uniform light grey finish throughout (photo 1). Numerous shallow and medium-depth dents are visible across all side panels and the base edges (photos 2, 3, 4). The original brass screw cap shows significant surface wear, small nicks, and natural oxidation (photo 7). No active scale or through-rust is visible.
