A motoring enamel advertising thermometer for Duckham’s Adcoids, featuring a white ground to the top and bottom sections with a central green ground. The upper portion displays script lettering for Duckham’s and includes three circular vignettes illustrating Duckham’s Adcoidised N.P. Oils and Duckham’s Morrisol Sirrom Brand Engine Oil. The central thermometer section is flanked by black and white diagonal stripes and features a functional glass tube set against Fahrenheit and Celsius scales. The lower section carries block lettering in green and black reading ADCOIDS SAVE :- POWER, POUNDS, PATIENCE. The sign is constructed on a heavy-gauge convex steel plate with a flanged profile.
Width: 11 inches
Height: 45.5 inches
Depth: 1 inch.
Condition report:
The enamel face retains good colour and gloss to the central diagonal and green sections (photo 1). There is a significant area of enamel loss with heavy oxidation and rusting to the lower right corner, affecting the lettering for PATIENCE (photo 4, 6). Several smaller enamel chips and associated rust are visible around the mounting holes and along the outer edges (photo 2, 4). The glass thermometer tube is present and appears intact, though the protective metal bulb cage at the base and the upper mounting bracket show heavy surface corrosion and rust (photo 3, 5). The reverse of the sign is heavily rusted and pitted across the entire surface (photo 7, 8).
