A rare, large scale white ground enamel advertising sign for Cleveland Discol alcohol-blend motor fuel. The sign features blue block lettering reading ALCOHOL FOR ENGINE POWER and a stylized fuel pump globe graphic in red and blue. The logo contains the brand names CLEVELAND in blue and DISCOL in red. Legal text to the bottom centre identifies trademarks for The Petroleum Storage and Finance Corporation, Ltd. and The Distillers Company, Ltd. The maker’s mark to the bottom right corner reads STOCAL. BURTON. The sign is constructed on a heavy-gauge steel plate with a returned flanged edge.

Condition report:

The sign is generally well presented and the blue and red enamel words have retained their depth of colour. There are a number of patches of damage to the enamel and metal notably to the left of the image of the globe and the bottom left corner, and a patch of restored metal to the image showing the top of the petrol pump.
