A rectangular lithographed tin lighter fuel can with a red ground and yellow and black detailing. The front panel features the yellow Shell pecten logo with black lettering reading JUNIOR SHELL, above the text SPECIALLY PREPARED for CLEANING and AUTOMATIC LIGHTERS. The side panel displays vertical yellow lettering spelling SHELL outlined in black. The rear panel includes directions for use and a caution notice, identifying the product as marketed by Shell-Mex & B.P. Ltd., Victoria Embankment, W.C.2. The tin is fitted with a fixed metal carry handle and a knurled metal screw-top dispenser cap. The base of the rear panel features a small circular logo containing the letters S, M, B, and P.


Condition report:

The tin shows age-related wear throughout. There is significant oxidation and crazing to the red lithographed finish on all panels (photos 1 and 2). Surface rust and darkening of the metal are visible on the top and bottom rims (photo 1). A noticeable dent is present on the rear panel near the caution text (photo 2). Accumulations of dust and old residue are visible around the handle and the dispenser cap, which shows surface tarnish (photo 1).
