A trio of advertising prints comprising two tobacciana items and one household product showcard. The first is a Wills’s Gold Flake Cigarettes print featuring a portrait of Sir Walter Raleigh in Elizabethan dress with a facsimile signature reading Sir W. Raleigh and a printed signature to the lower right for Sep. E. Scott. The second is a Sunlight Soap advertising print for Lever Brothers Limited, Port Sunlight, depicting a black and white photographic vignette of a woman set against a blue ground with yellow borders and a colour product image, bearing the reference S. 022A. 2. 29. The third is a modern Art Deco style print for Wills’s Gold Flake Cigarettes featuring a stylised profile of a woman smoking, bearing a reverse printed copyright mark for 1977 Elgin Court Designs Limited, printed in England. The Wills’s Raleigh print measures approximately 7 inches by 4 3/8 inches. The Sunlight Soap print measures approximately 7 1/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches.
Condition report:
The Wills\'s Raleigh print is loosely mounted to a rough-cut brown paper backing which exhibits significant tearing and creasing at the edges (photo 12). The Sunlight Soap print is similarly mounted to a torn and creased paper backing (photo 7). The Art Deco print is secured with masking tape to the reverse of a green card mount; the mount shows light handling marks and pencil annotations to the reverse (photo 4). All central images appear generally well-preserved with minor age toning.
