A cast iron advertising display figure depicting a Georgian gentleman, designed for Whitbread. The figure is constructed with a torso and neck shaped as an ale bottle, surmounted by a head wearing a tricorn hat and a powdered wig with a pigtail. The figure is depicted in a dark coat, red breeches, and yellow stockings with buckled shoes, holding a separate thin metal walking cane in the right hand. The entire figure stands upon an integral rectangular cast iron plinth base. The front of the base features raised, block-printed lettering across three lines which reads GOOD FOR HIM & GOOD FOR YOU SINCE SEVENTEEN HUNDRED & FORTY TWO. The underside of the plinth is fitted with a rectangular metal base plate.
Height: 15.5 inches.

Condition report:

The figure shows significant paint flaking and loss throughout, particularly to the bottle-shaped torso, shoulders, and hat (photo 7). There is widespread chipping and wear to the painted surface exposing the grey metal beneath (photo 1). The metal base plate to the underside exhibits heavy surface rust and oxidation (photo 9).
