A H. & G. Simonds Ltd. reverse painted mirror advertising sign featuring a central three-lobed red leaf graphic for The Hop Leaf trademark. The mirror field is decorated with gilded beveled-effect lettering outlined in black, reading SIMONDS’ READING PALE ALES AND STOUT HOME & EXPORT. The glass panel is housed in a stained oak frame. A maker’s mark is printed at the bottom right corner reading ACME S/CARD CO. LD. LONDON E 8. The reverse is finished with brown paper backing and tape.

Condition report:

The glass panel displays significant foxing and silvering loss, appearing as dark spotting and clouding along the upper and lower edges and across the main field (photo 1). Several surface scratches are visible to the mirror surface (photo 2). The oak frame shows minor scuffs and wear consistent with age, and has two pre-drilled mounting holes in the side members (photo 6). The paper backing is torn in multiple places and secured with aged tape (photo 9).
