Start price: £120

Estimated price: £250 - £500

An Allsopp’s advertising sign constructed from a black painted slate panel. The sign features hand-carved deep V-cut lettering reading ALLSOPP’S, arched at the top, above BURTON ALES. The carved letters are finished in a gold-toned paint. Positioned centrally is a recessed red shield-shaped panel depicting the brewery’s Red Hand trademark in black outline. The top left corner of the panel features incised numerals 23.

Height 20 1/4 inches, width 11 1/4 inches.

Condition report:

The sign is in original weathered condition. Wear and thinning is visible to the gold paint within the carved letters, revealing the dark ground beneath (photo 2). The central red panel presetns well. The reverse of the panel shows general surface wear, grime, and old staining (photo 7).
