A reverse painted mirror advertising Fry’s Chocolate. The mirror field features gilded and textured lettering, with the central brand name Fry’s set above 300 GOLD MEDALS &c. and Chocolate. The design incorporates two Royal Warrants, including the Royal Coat of Arms at the head with the wording MAKERS TO T.M. THE KING & QUEEN and BY APPOINTMENT. The base features the Prince of Wales’s feathers crest with the motto ICH DIEN and text & H.R.H. THE PRINCE OF WALES. A printed inscription at the bottom edge reads THIS IS THE PROPERTY OF J.S. FRY & SONS LTD. BRISTOL & LONDON. The mirror is set within a dark-stained bevelled wooden frame.
Height approximately 29.5 inches, width approximately 16.5 inches.
Condition report:
Surface scratches are present across the glass. Age-related foxing and clouding to the silvering is visible, notably around the edges and lower text (photo 5). The wooden frame shows minor scuffs and knocks consistent with shop use (photos 6 and 7).
