A Watney Combe Reid Reid’s Special Stout advertising print featuring a red ground with bold three-dimensional effect lettering. The top section displays REID’S in light blue with dark shadows, positioned above SPECIAL STOUT in cream lettering. A central white oval contains a graphic of a stout bottle. The printed neck label displays a Royal Warrant reading BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY KING GEORGE. The main bottle label features a griffin crest and reads WATNEY COMBE REID & COMPANY LTD. REID’S SPECIAL STOUT BOTTLED AT THE BREWERY STORES LONDON INCORPORATED 1898. The lower section carries the slogan The Finest Stout brewed in a stylised white script with drop shadows. The piece is set within a black wooden frame with a gilded inner slip. The bottom rail of the frame is printed with the name WATNEY COMBE REID & CO LTD.

Overall width 26 5/8 inches by 22 5/8 inches high.


Condition report:

The internal lithographed sign is in excellent condition with no visible fading or staining. The glass is intact. The black wooden frame shows light scuffing to the finish and a small chip to the bottom right corner (photo 5). There is a minor scuff to the gilt slip near the bottom left edge (photo 1). The reverse paper backing is aged with small holes from previous mounting hardware (photo 7).
