A W.A. Smith & Sons Limited advertising sign for the Crown Brewery, Macclesfield. The cream ground with dark blue and red serif typography features a central circular trade mark depicting a crown with red velvet and pearl detailing, flanked by scrolls and hop vine motifs. The lower section includes the text ALES & STOUTS in dark blue shadowed lettering above CROWN BREWERY, MACCLESFIELD in red. Housed in a carved dark wood frame with a gilded inner slip. A small, partially illegible printer’s mark is visible at the bottom edge.

Condition report:

Noticeable toning and foxing to the cream paper ground, particularly to the left side and top margin (photos 1 and 2). The printed colours of the graphics and typography remain strong. The carved wooden frame shows minor surface dust and light wear to the gilding. The reverse paper backing is intact with some tearing to the edges (photo 7).
