A framed illuminated-style Long Service Certificate presented to John Edward Harris by the Board of Directors of John Player & Sons, a branch of the Imperial Tobacco Company (of Great Britain & Ireland) Limited. The certificate recognizes twenty-five years of service and features a central vignette of workers harvesting tobacco plants, surrounded by foliate borders of tobacco leaves and blossoms. The decorative border includes the coats of arms for Bristol, Nottingham, Glasgow, Ipswich, Swindon, Chester, London, and Liverpool. The document is dated 28th August 1928 and is signed in ink by Chairman Gilbert A. H. Wills. The lower margin is printed with the credit Designed and Produced by Alan Tabor, St Ann’s Arcade, Manchester. A large central seal for the Imperial Tobacco Company is located at the base. The reverse bears a worn white adhesive label reading MARDONS. MANUFACTURERS OF WINDOW NOVELTIES EMBOSSED SHOWCARDS &c. &c. VARNISHERS, GELATINERS & FRAME MAKERS. BRISTOL & LONDON. The certificate is presented in a dark-stained wooden frame with a gilt inner slip.

Condition report:
The paper substrate is significantly age-toned and yellowed, with visible foxing and staining to the lower edge and around the mount (photo 2). Minor rippling is evident to the paper. The frame shows surface scuffing and small chips consistent with age (photo 6). The rear paper backing is in poor condition, being brittle and torn with significant sections missing (photo 8). The backing exhibits heavy water staining and foxing. The hanging wire is rusted (photo 8).
