Two framed posters produced for the Western Region of British Railways. The first is a travel poster featuring an illustration by the marine artist L. A. Wilcox depicting the steamer St David at sea. Typography below the image reads FISHGUARD-ROSSLARE shortest sea route to and from SOUTHERN IRELAND 54 miles LUXURIOUSLY APPOINTED STEAMERS EXPRESS TRAIN SERVICES FACILITIES FOR CONVEYANCE OF MOTOR CARS. The artist’s signature L. A. WILCOX is printed at the bottom right of the image. Lower margin marks include PUBLISHED BY BRITISH RAILWAYS (WESTERN REGION) PR 52 at the left and PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN BY JORDISON & CO., LTD., LONDON AND MIDDLESBROUGH at the right. The second poster is a typographic public notice titled WITHDRAWAL OF PASSENGER TRAIN SERVICES, announcing service cuts effective from Monday 30th June 1958. It features the British Railways Western Region totem logo at the bottom centre. Bottom margin text reads PUBLISHED BY BRITISH RAILWAYS (WESTERN REGION) and PRINTED IN GREAT BRITAIN BY HARRISON & SONS, LTD., 44-47, ST. MARTIN’S LANE, LONDON, W.C with reference number 5466.

Condition report:
Poster 1 shows a visible horizontal fold line through the centre (photo 2) and light scattered foxing across the sky and sea sections (photo 2). General toning and minor edge wear are present in the margins. The wooden frame shows light surface abrasions. Poster 2 exhibits significant heavy foxing and brown spotting across the entire surface, most prominent in the lower half (photo 3). Horizontal and vertical fold lines from original posting are clearly visible (photo 3). The modern high-gloss red stained frame appears to be in good order.
