A circular ceramic ashtray for Black & White Scotch Whisky. The white ground body features a rolled-in rim decorated with a black and white chequered border. The top surface is printed with the brand’s mascots: a black Scottish Terrier and a white West Highland White Terrier. The front displays the text BLACK & WHITE above SCOTCH WHISKY and “BUCHANAN’S”. The reverse side features a Royal Warrant crest above text reading By Appointment to Her Majesty The Queen Scotch Whisky Distillers James Buchanan & Co Ltd. The base features a green circular printed mark for James Green & Nephew Ltd, Designers & Manufacturers, London & Stoke, with the text MADE IN ENGLAND below. An incised number 2 is also present on the underside.


Condition report:

Significant fine-line crazing is visible across the entire glazed surface, most notably on the base (photo 3). Brown rust-coloured spots or nicotine stains are present on the top surface near the brand lettering and around the rim (photo 1). The foot ring shows darkening and shelf wear from use (photo 3).
