A collection of ceramic and glass advertising items featuring various British and international alcohol brands. A white ashtray with a circular central well features black printed text for Canadian Club and Hiram Walker’s. A cream-coloured circular coaster for Warwicks Milk Maid Stout displays a central graphic of a milkmaid carrying pails, with a laurel wreath backstamp on the reverse containing a printed mark reading WADE Regicor LONDON ENGLAND. A green glazed ashtray for Wrekin Famous Ales features a central black print of a man in a top hat, bearing a matching WADE Regicor backstamp. A deep-welled green ashtray for Johnnie Walker is decorated with the Striding Man figure and the slogan BORN 1820 - STILL GOING STRONG, with a printed circular mark on the base for JAMES GREEN & NEPHEW LTD DESIGNERS & MANUFACTURERS LONDON. Completing the group is a yellow-rimmed coaster for Magee Marshall & Co. Ltd Bolton & Burton-on-Trent, depicting a man pouring a drink, with a green circular backstamp on the reverse reading BURLEIGH ENGLAND HANCOCK CORFIELD & WALLER LTD MITCHAM.


Condition report:

The Johnnie Walker ashtray shows significant wear and loss to the green glaze around the rim and heavy crazing to the well (photo 1). The Warwicks Milk Maid Stout coaster exhibits fine crazing across the front and back surface (photos 1 and 2). The Wrekin Ales ashtray has several small chips and flea bites to the outer rim and underside edge (photo 2). Surface grime and light scratches are visible on the Canadian Club ashtray (photo 1). The Magee Marshall coaster shows extensive fine glaze crazing throughout (photo 1).
