Stretton Hills Co. Ltd. advertising showcard on a pale cream ground, featuring blue and red lettering advertising “Stretton” Table Waters, “The purest Water in the World”, and “Stretton Mountain 1700 ft above Sea Level”. The centre depicts a brown glass bottle with printed label reading “The Stretton Hills Mineral Water Co, CWM Dale Spring, Church Stretton, Salop.” Printed by Sir Joseph Causton & Sons, Limited, London along the lower margin. Housed in a branded glazed oak frame with incised lettering reading “STRETTON” to the top and “WATERS” to the lower rail, fitted with two decorative brass studs to the lower edge and a wooden panel backboard. Measures 5 1/4 inches wide by 7 1/4 inches high overall.


Condition report:

Paper ground displays notable water staining and discolouration across the lower portion and edges, with horizontal creasing across the lower half and areas of surface foxing (photos 1, 2, 4, 5). Oak frame shows surface rubbing, light edge wear, and loss of original varnish (photos 1, 2). Reverse of the frame shows remnants of degraded paper and adhesive tape along the outer borders, surface scuffing to the backboard, and rusted fixing nails (photo 3). Brass studs show natural surface tarnishing.
