The outer circular border features the text FIRST CLASS LONDON 1862 and GOLD MEDAL PARIS 1867. The design is flanked by two circular medallions: the left depicting an exhibition scene and the right showing a profile portrait of Napoleon III with the text NAPOLEON III EMPEREUR. The reverse features a black printed maker’s mark reading W. T. COPELAND & SONS STOKE ON TRENT. There is also an impressed mark below which is partially legible, showing COPELAND in an arc.
