A framed lithographic advertising showcard for Adkin’s Nut Brown Tobacco. The central colour lithograph depicts a traditional English tavern scene featuring three gentlemen in period attire socializing outside an inn, after an illustration by Frank Dadd. The artwork is set within a dark olive-grey border featuring orange block typography reading ADKIN’S and NUT BROWN TOBACCO. The piece is mounted in a dark-stained wood frame with an incised inscription to the bottom rail reading ADKIN’S NUT BROWN TOBACCO. The illustration is signed FRANK DADD to the lower left corner and includes a secondary sign within the image reading NUT BROWN BY ADKIN. The reverse is finished with brown paper backing featuring a handwritten reference B60409 in a rectangular box.

24 inches x 18 inches.

Condition report:

The lithograph remains bright with good colour retention; there are light surface scuffs visible to the printed area (photo 1). The frame shows heavy wear consistent with use, with numerous scuffs, scratches, and losses to the stained finish, particularly along the left side and lower edges (photo 3). The brown paper backing is brittle and shows several significant tears (photo 4). The hanging wire is absent, leaving one eyelet remaining (photo 4).
