Lot 73: Planters Mr. Peanut Cast Metal Still Bank
1 view
A cast metal still bank in the form of the Planters Peanuts mascot, Mr. Peanut. The figure is constructed in two parts joined by a single screw to the reverse and is depicted in characteristic attire including a top hat, monocle, gloves, and spats, while holding a walking cane. The figure features a black-painted finish to the hat, limbs, and base, with a cream-painted textured shell torso and gloves. Embossed cream-painted lettering on the front of the hat rim reads MR • PEANUT and the front of the circular base is embossed with PLANTERS. A coin slot is located on the reverse of the peanut shell. The underside of the base shows a split seam from the casting process.
Height: Approximately 8.25 inches.
Condition report:
The bank shows wear consistent with use. There is widespread paint loss and chipping, notably on the raised lettering, the edges of the hat, and the shoes (photo 1). The cream-painted sections exhibit surface dirt and discolouration (photo 2). Surface oxidation and light rust are visible on the underside and along the joining seams (photo 3).
