A rectangular enamel advertising sign for Hudson’s Soap. The sign features a central white wedge-shaped ground with the brand name HUDSON’S in large black block lettering, followed by SOAP. To the left is a graphic depiction of a soap packet with vertical lettering P E & S, set against a red ground with the word POWERFUL in yellow. The lower section includes the slogan EASY AND SAFE in yellow on a red ground. To the right, a red graphic shows an arm holding a scrubbing brush under a water tap. The entire design is enclosed within a black border and a green outer frame. A printed maker’s mark in the bottom green border reads STAINTON & HULME LTD B’HAM. —>. The reverse is finished in black.

Condition report:

Although the colours are still good and vibrant, the enamel surface shows several areas of loss and chipping exposing the metal base which has oxidised to rust, notably at the top edge (photo 1), the lower edge (photo 2), and within the word SAFE (photo 3). There are smaller pockmarks and scratches across the face.
