Start price: £20

Estimated price: £40 - £70

A rectangular metal advertising sign with a cream ground and a dark green border. The face features reddish-orange lettering in a bold sans-serif style reading SOUTHERN RLY. DANGER. DON’T TOUCH CONDUCTOR RAILS. The central text is underlined by thin horizontal rules in the same reddish-orange hue. The sign is constructed from sheet metal with an enamel finish and retains six original mounting holes. The reverse shows an untreated oxidised metal surface.
20 inches x 12 inches.

Condition report:

The sign is in a weathered, as-found condition. The enamel face shows significant surface staining and dirt throughout (photo 1). There are three prominent circular rust blooms penetrating the enamel on the lower half, specifically over the words DON\'T and RAILS (photo 1). The green enamel border exhibits heavy chipping and loss, particularly at the corners and around the mounting holes, where the underlying metal is exposed and rusted (photo 1). The reverse side is entirely covered in surface oxidation and heavy rust (photo 2).
