An assortment of four motoring-related items comprising three tin signs and one workshop tool. The lot includes a red and white enamel sign fragment featuring a red winged horse graphic facing left against a white ground. A rectangular yellow enamel sign features black lettering reading PRIVATE and THIS PUMP PLEASE, with stylized black-letter script reading Exide in the centre above LATTER YOUR CAR. A French circular red enamel sign features a white horizontal bar and block lettering reading STATIONNEMENT INTERDIT SORTIE DE GARAGE. The collection is completed by a circular metal engine timing disc printed in green and red for Castrol, with detailed instructions and maker’s address reading CASTROL LIMITED, CASTROL HOUSE, MARYLEBONE ROAD, LONDON N.W.1.
Pegasus sign fragment: 17 inches x 7.5 inches.
Exide sign: 10 inches x 16 inches.
French circular sign: 12 inches diameter.
Castrol engine timer: 6 inches diameter.
Condition report:
The Pegasus sign is a fragmentary cut-down portion of a larger sign with jagged lower edges and significant enamel loss and surface scratching (photo 11). The Exide sign shows heavy black overpainting obscuring parts of the text including the Exide logo and the word THIS, alongside significant enamel chipping to the corners and edges (photo 6). The French circular sign has enamel loss and rusting at the mounting holes with surface scratching across the centre (photo 3). The Castrol engine timer is in good condition with minor surface oxidation and light scratches, remaining fully legible (photo 1).
