A group lot of British automotive collectibles and workshop tins. The collection includes a rectangular green Wakefield Castrol motor oil tin for Hi-Press 140 EP gear oil, featuring a white and red logo with the slogan THE MASTERPIECE IN OILS. A Morris’s Shrewsbury Golden Film 2T 40 motor oil tin is present in a rectangular yellow and blue form with an integrated flexible pouring spout, printed with MANUFACTURED ONLY BY MORRIS’S SHREWSBURY ESTABLISHED 1869 MAKERS OF FINE LUBRICANTS. The set features a yellow bulbous metal Shell oil pourer with a long spout and thumb-pump mechanism; the body displays the Shell pecten logo and FRAM FILTRON FILTER, while the filler cap is stamped BRAIME LEEDS. Also included are two small rectangular spirit tins: a red Shell tin with vertical white lettering and a top stamped 3 1/2d DEPOSIT and PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE, and a green Pratt’s tin with white script lettering to the front and P P XX to the side, with a top stamped PRATT’S PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE. Workshop items comprise a small cylindrical Chemico grinding paste tin for automobile valves, printed with directions and COUNTY CHEMICAL CO, and a circular yellow and orange Slipcotize cleaner tin. The lot is completed by a stack of paper promotional ephemera for Esso Heating Oil featuring the red and blue oval logo. The miniature Pratts and Shell cans are new fantasy pieces.


Condition report:

The Castrol and Morris\'s tins show significant surface wear, paint loss, staining, and areas of corrosion (photo 1). The Braime oiler exhibits extensive paint chipping and pitting to the yellow finish, particularly on the handle and spout (photo 12). The Chemico and Slipcotize tins display heavy patina and surface rust (photos 4, 5, 6). The red Shell and green Pratt\'s tins show a high-gloss finish with minimal wear (photos 7, 10). The Esso paper labels show creasing, staining, and signs of moisture damage (photo 2).
