Lot 484: Regent Motor Spirit Two-Gallon Petrol Can

A two gallon rectangular petrol can with a blue ground and white-painted embossed lettering reading REGENT MOTOR SPIRIT. The top panel is embossed with the safety warning PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE and includes the characters 3/-. The can features a central fixed carry handle and a screw-top filler neck located in the corner, fitted with a brass cap embossed with the word REGENT. The base of the can bears a circular embossed maker’s mark with the characters HENRY GRANT in the upper arch and CO LTD LONDON in the lower arch.
Condition report:
The blue and white paint exhibits various chips, scratches, and areas of thinning, particularly along the edges and raised lettering (photo 1). Surface rust and pitting is visible along the top and bottom seams, with notable heavy oxidation and metal loss at the top corner adjacent to the filler neck (photo 7). Several moderate dents are visible to the side panels and corners (photo 2, photo 5). The brass filler cap shows heavy tarnish and verdigris (photo 7). The interior has not been inspected.
