Dark blue ground with Palethorpes lettering in white serif block style with black shadowing. The central graphic depicts a bundle of sausages secured with a detailed white and blue paper band. The band features lettering for British Trade Mark Pork, Cambridge Sausages, and preservative information. The variety name Royal Cambridge is positioned to the lower left in white lettering. The sign is housed in a simple wooden frame. A maker’s mark to the bottom right reads Imperial Enamel Co Birmham.
37.5in x 25.5in.
Condition report:
Excellent sheen to the enamel. Believed to be in its original frame. Several chips to the enamel surface expose the metal base, including a central circular chip on the sausage illustration (photo 2, 5) and an area of loss at the bottom edge above the maker\'s mark (photo 4). The surface shows all-over fine scratching and some dulling to the gloss (photo 1, 2). The wooden frame is in weathered condition with a split in the bottom right corner (photo 7). The reverse of the metal sheet exhibits widespread surface oxidation and rust (photo 8).
