A two-gallon rectangular metal petrol can with red ground, featuring embossed lettering and graphics. The front and rear faces are embossed SHELL above a central winged pecten logo and AVIATION SPIRIT below. The sides bear vertical embossed SHELL lettering. The top surface is embossed with the warning PETROLEUM SPIRIT HIGHLY INFLAMMABLE and a rectangular mark reading SHELL-MEX LTD LONDON W.C.2. The can is fitted with a tapered metal handle and a metal screw-top cap embossed SHELL.


Condition report:

The can has been repainted with visible brush strokes and paint overlap on the embossed detailing. The handle and cap show signs of surface oxidation and pitting (photo 3 and 5). Minor paint loss and wear are present along the base edges and top seams (photo 1 and 4).
