A rectangular enamel advertising sign for Hadfield’s Liverpool Fertilisers. The sign features a yellow ground with bold black sans-serif lettering reading ESTABLISHED 1820 HADFIELD’S LIVERPOOL FERTILISERS. An embossed maker’s mark to the bottom right corner reads PROTECTOR ENAMEL.

Condition report:

Significant enamel loss and associated oxidation along all four edges and corners (Photos 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5). Each of the eight mounting holes shows enamel loss and surface rust (Photos 1, 4, and 6). The central yellow field retains a good level of gloss with scattered minor surface scratches and faint pitting (Photos 3 and 4). The reverse is finished in black and exhibits extensive surface corrosion, bubbling to the finish, and yellow paint drips from production (Photo 9).
