A circular motoring enamel advertising sign for Morris. The sign features a white central ground with a red ox crossing a blue wavy river within a white and blue shield, representing the arms of the city of Oxford. The upper section is set with white serif lettering reading MORRIS on a dark blue ground, balanced by a lower arc reading Authorised Dealer in white. The design is further detailed with two sets of three horizontal stripes in red, white, and blue to the left and right sides. The sign has a convex, domed form with four pre-drilled mounting holes at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. The enamel finish exhibits a high-gloss surface with a textured orange peel effect visible in the blue areas. No maker’s mark is visible on the surface.
Condition report:
Both sides of this sign retain very good, shiny enamel and strong unfaded colours. The enamel surface shows a high-gloss finish with some surface scuffing and light scratching throughout, particularly visible in the reflective highlights (photo 2 and 8). There are significant areas of restoration to both sides of the sign typically performed to a very good standard.
