A four fluid ounce rectangular lithographed tin for BP Energol Domestic Oil. The design features a vertical yellow and white striped ground with a central green shield-shaped panel. This panel contains the BP shield logo in yellow and green above the brand name ENERGOL in yellow serif lettering with black outlines, with the words DOMESTIC OIL printed below in white. A decorative black band encircles the base, displaying yellow silhouette icons of various household items including a bicycle, lawnmower, wheelbarrow, sewing machine, and a pram. The side of the tin is marked with the capacity. The top is fitted with a metal swivel spout mechanism, with the upper plate embossed with OPEN and CLOSE and directional arrows.
Condition report:
This nicely presented tin shows signs of wear consistent with use. There is visible surface corrosion and tarnishing across the metal top plate and the swivel spout mechanism (photo 5). The lithographed body exhibits some fine surface scratches, small areas of paint loss concentrated along the vertical seams and base edges, and light surface grime (photo 1, 2, and 4). The colours remain bright and all printed text is legible.
