A Whitbread PLC metal advertising sign featuring a central black ground oval cartouche with a raised profile crest of a hind’s head on a twisted wreath. The oval border contains the raised gilded lettering WHITBREAD PLC and the date 1742 below. The central emblem is flanked by openwork cast hop cones, leaves, and stylized foliage, all mounted upon a flat rectangular base plate with four mounting holes. The sign is finished in black with gilded highlights to the raised relief elements.
33.5 inches x 24.5 inches.

Condition report:

The painted finish shows wear and loss, with visible flaking and scuffing to the gilded sections on the central deer head, lettering, and hop cones (photos 1, 2, and 5). There is general surface grime and light oxidation present throughout. The cast metal structure remains sound with no visible breaks or cracks to the openwork foliage. The base plate shows signs of previous installation wear around the mounting holes (photo 3).
