An Ind Coope & Co Ltd Burton Ales reverse painted mirror advertising sign of significant horizontal proportions. The mirror field features high-relief, reverse-painted lettering with the upper line reading IND, COOPE & CO’S LTD. in red with black outlines, and the lower line reading BURTON ALES in black with gold outlines. A central oval cartouche depicts the seated figure of Britannia with a trident and a Union Jack shield, set against a coastal landscape with a lighthouse and a ship, flanked by the words TRADE and MARK. The glass is further decorated with etched scrolling foliate corners and a double-line border. The lower-left border features an incised maker’s mark reading FRANCIS GLASS WORKS. The mirror is housed in a stained wood frame and the reverse is fitted with a central vertical wooden support bar and two metal hanging loops.

Condition report:
The mirror is in good overall condition for its age. The silvering is largely intact, with some areas of foxing and silvering loss visible at the edges and corners (photos 4, 11). The reverse-painted graphics remain vibrant without significant loss or flaking. Surface scratches and dust are present across the glass field (photo 8). The wooden frame shows typical wear including minor scuffs and surface indentations (photo 11). The brown paper backing on the reverse has multiple tears (photo 13). 400 - 600
