A Godfrey Phillips India Ltd lithographed tin advertising sign with a black ground, featuring yellow and white lettering across the top reading ‘CIGARETTES SPECIALLY RECOMMENDED FOR YOUR CHOICE’. The face is decorated with illustrations of four cigarette packets comprising ‘Dobie of Paisley’, a worn centre-left pack, ‘North Pole Menthol Cooled’ with globe graphic, and ‘Cavander’s Medium Navy Cut Magnums’ featuring a sailor motif. The lower edge incorporates three integrated pressed metal bracket tabs. Marked along the lower front margin ‘Issued by GODFREY PHILLIPS INDIA LTD. GP-135’ and printed along the lower reverse edge ‘PRINTED BY THE METAL PRINTERS CO. P BOX NO 411 BOMBAY 1’.


Condition report:

Extensive surface wear throughout with widespread paint loss, scratching, and areas of surface corrosion across the face, most prominently across the centre-left cigarette pack graphic and lower section (photo 1). A noticeable dent and crease is present to the upper left edge adjacent to the lettering (photo 1). The reverse shows widespread discolouration, paint rubbing, and surface oxidation (photos 2, 3, and 4).
