A Mumby and Sons ginger ale advertising match striker. The circular body features a textured light blue glazed ground designed as a striking surface. The central raised collar is finished in a dark blue glaze and features white embossed lettering reading MUMBY to one side and PORTSMOUTH to the reverse. The body displays two applied cream-coloured stoneware labels. The first features black text reading MUMBY’S GINGER ALE A SPECIALITE. The second features a black printed Royal Coat of Arms with the text BY APPOINTMENT TO H.M. THE KING. The unglazed base bears an impressed circular mark reading DOULTON LAMBETH ENGLAND. It also retains remnants of a rectangular adhesive paper label.

Condition report:

A vertical hairline crack runs through the cream-coloured applied label featuring the Royal Coat of Arms (photo 2). Minor surface staining and discolouration are present on both cream labels and the unglazed base (photo 3 and photo 4).
