A ceramic advertising match striker and vesta holder for A. & R. Thwaites & Co. (Limited), Dublin. The piece features a central spherical match holder with a textured, cross-hatched striking surface, mounted on a wide integral saucer base. The upper rim of the sphere is printed with THWAITES’ SODA WATER in black serif lettering. The outer rim of the saucer base features the same wording in a larger font. The interior of the saucer displays a rectangular transfer-printed label reading PATENT SODA WATER PREPARED BY A. & R. THWAITES & CO. (LIMITED) Inventors of Soda Water DUBLIN Manufacturers to His Majesty The King, set against a large red T logo. The underside of the base bears a black printed retailer mark for J. A. CAMPBELL 64. ROYAL AVENUE. BELFAST.

Base diameter approximately 11.5 cm.


Condition report:

Dense spiderweb crazing is visible across all glazed surfaces (photos 1, 2, 4). There is significant brown staining and grime trapped within the crazing and on the textured striker (photos 1, 3, 5). Visible wear and fading to the transfer-printed label and rim text (photos 2, 3). The underside shows shelf wear and minor flakes to the glaze at the foot rim (photo 4). Small amount of debris present in the central well (photo 3).
