Lot 171: R. White's High Class Mineral Waters Lovatt Langley Mill Match Striker and Holder

A promotional stoneware Match Striker and Holder for R. White’s Mineral Waters. The piece features a two-tone construction with a ribbed, unglazed brown globular upper section mounted to a flared circular base finished in a dark brown glaze. The front is decorated with a raised, white-glazed slip label bearing black transfer-printed text reading R. WHITE’S / HIGH CLASS / MINERAL WATERS / NEWTON HEATH / MANCHESTER. The unglazed base bears an impressed maker’s mark within an oval reading LOVATT / LANGLEY MILL / NOTTS. A small impressed four-dot clover-like symbol is also present on the underside.
