A large-scale enamel advertising sign for Capstan Medium Cigarettes. The sign is finished in a two-tone blue and white colour scheme, featuring a central navy blue horizontal band with the brand name CAPSTAN in bold white serif lettering. The lower light blue section carries the text MEDIUM CIGARETTES in navy blue sans-serif characters. An upper-right white rectangular inset contains a navy blue stylized line-drawn illustration of a chess rook. The sign is of convex construction, designed for mounting on a curved surface, and is fitted with two vertical wooden mounting battens to the reverse.

Height: 60 inches
Width: 36 inches.

Condition report:

The sign retains a high gloss to the enamel surface. Enamel losses and chips are visible around the eight mounting holes and along the outer edges, revealing the base metal with associated surface oxidation (photos 1, 3 and 4). There are scattered surface scratches and minor pitting across the main body of the sign (photo 1). The reverse side shows a dark oxidized finish with wear to the wooden battens (photo 7).
