Lot 47: Vintage Sunlight Soap Enamel Advertising Sign
0 views
A large rectangular porcelain enamel advertising sign for Sunlight Soap. The design features a striking blue, yellow, and white color palette. The upper yellow register displays the text “Soap Makers to the Queen” flanking a central depiction of the British Royal Coat of Arms, which includes the mottos “DIEU ET MON DROIT” and “HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE,” indicating a Royal Warrant. The main field features the word “SUNLIGHT” in large white stylized lettering set against a deep blue banner, with the word “SOAP” in black on a yellow band below. The sign is constructed of porcelain enamel applied to a steel substrate, typical of early 20th-century outdoor advertising. A small code or manufacturer’s mark (possibly ‘898’) is visible in the lower left corner. The sign is currently mounted on a wooden surface, partially obscuring four other advertising plaques, including one for ‘GLOBE METAL POLISH’.
