A five gallon pyramid-top lithographed tin motor oil can for Redline-Glico Limited. The grey ground body features three applied panels with black grounds. The front panel includes the slogan A Tonic for your Engine in yellow above Glico Motor Oils in red and yellow, featuring a stylized illustration of a 1920s motor car. A side panel lists various industrial and automotive lubricants including Compressor Oils, Diesel Lubricating Oils, and Turbine Oils. The rear panel displays company information for Redline-Glico Ltd at Redline House, Haymarket S.W.1. The pyramid top features circular Redline-Glico Limited logos and Grade boxes, one bearing a faded stamp for Auto Oil LIG. The can is fitted with dual wire carry handles and a central screw cap. The base features an embossed circular mark reading Robinson & Sons Hull around the outer edge.
Condition report:
The tin is in shows surface oxidation and minor rust spots throughout, particularly visible on the base and along the seams (photo 7). The lithographed panels exhibit age-related wear, including scratches, scuffing, and minor losses to the graphics (photos 1, 2, and 4). There are several small dents to the metal body, including a depression on the lower part of the rear panel (photo 5). Original wire handles and screw cap are present but show surface corrosion (photo 6).
