Lot 314: Bullards Better Beer Advertising Electric Sign
0 views
A Bullards brewery electric advertising sign featuring a figure of the Bullards mascot, depicted in 18th-century style dress with a red waistcoat, yellow coat, and green stockings, holding a glass of dark beer. The figure stands within a yellow architectural portico with two columns. The base is finished with a dark blue plaque featuring raised lettering in a cream tone. The sign header is fitted with a red-bordered label reading BULLARDS. The reverse is constructed from a wooden case with a black-painted paper or fiberboard back panel. A white two-core power cord is fitted with an inline rocker switch and terminates in exposed wire ends. The sign measures approximately 14.5 inches in height and 11.5 inches in width across the pediment.
Condition report:
The yellow portico shows structural damage including extensive cracking, chipping, and missing sections along the top pediment (photo 1, 4, and 5). There is general fading to the yellow finish and minor paint loss to the figure. The reverse fibreboard panel is heavily worn, torn, and detached at the upper corner with adhesive tape residue present (photo 2). The electrical wiring is in a hazardous, non-compliant state with a missing plug and exposed copper wire (photo 2); the unit is untested and requires professional rewiring.
