A lithographic advertising showcard for Player’s Navy Cut Tobacco & Cigarettes featuring artwork by Frank H. Mason. The central image, titled Old Friends, depicts a Royal Navy destroyer cutting through a choppy sea with bow spray, accompanied by two civilian yachts under sail and further naval vessels on the horizon. The scene is set under a cloudy blue sky and presented within a wide cream-coloured border with bold red and black serif lettering. The artwork is signed FRANK H. MASON within the print to the lower left of the image area, with small printed text below reading · OLD FRIENDS · by Frank H. Mason, R.I. The bottom left corner of the border bears a small printed monogram device above the text Nº 12661.

Condition report:
The printed image area remains vibrant with some light surface scuffs and minor indentations (photo 1). We suspect as a result of the protective glass and frame having been broken the cream-coloured border shows significant foxing and general staining, particularly at the bottom left corner (photo 3). There is visible wear to the corners, including minor delamination and scuffing (photo 3). The reverse backing board is heavily discoloured with foxing and has extensive remains of old brown adhesive tape around the entire perimeter (photo 6).
