Lot 18: A Trio of Vintage Advertising Signs, including Schweppes and Fry's Chocolate
1 view
A collection of three early 20th-century promotional advertising signs, likely constructed of enameled tin. The most prominent item is a large, rectangular sign for Schweppes, rendered in dark green, white, and yellow. The sign advertises “SODA WATER, GINGER ALE, TONIC WATER, LIME JUICE,” and features illustrations of beverage bottles alongside a central graphic incorporating a lion and unicorn, indicative of a Royal Warrant. Positioned above the Schweppes sign is a fragmentary sign for Fry’s Milk Chocolate, executed in dark blue and white. This sign explicitly states “MAKERS TO H.M. THE KING & QUEEN” and displays a Royal Coat of Arms, suggesting a dating to the Edwardian or George V era (early 20th century). A third, small, white sign fragment is partially visible in the upper right corner.
